With the price of oil constantly rising, what is one to do? In little Zhebu, of Taichung's Dadu Township, in central Taiwan, the ordinary community has taken a novel approach to dealing with higher energy prices. They have built their own wind turbine, composting and sewerage system. And this environmentally friendly lifestyle is becoming the focal point of interest and pride for the community. (Annoying wind is a power source) This homemade wind turbine not only creates energy, but stands as a symbol of Zhebu Township's staunch environmental efforts. Community conservation captain, Chen Dacheng:" Why did we decide to make this wind turbine? Because we are an eco-community and we wanted a green energy source. When we first started to look into it, we thought of the wind that comes down from Mt. Dadu. It is incredibly strong and can be unpleasant. So we decided to take this unpleasant part of our lives transform it into a special feature of our community. " (Using natural forms of energy) Dadu Urban Township is located on a high plateau of central Taiwan, where strong northeasterly winds are a constant nuisance. Residents, however, have learned to use it to generate energy. And when there is no wind, they have another way.
